I am a qualified Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapist and Counsellor working by combining traditional Clinical Hypnotherapy with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I am a member of the National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH) and Register for Evidence Based Hypnotherapy & Psychotherapy (REBHP) and follow their codes and ethics of practise.
Hypnotherapy works by getting ourselves to a relaxed state of mind where we can focus on a particular idea in order to influence our emotions on a deeper level, and change associations. For example; feeling calm and relaxed about dealing with work or family life, or confident when speaking in front of an audience. It usually feels like being gently relaxed or day dreaming, and under no circumstances does hypnosis make you loose control or black out, these are common misconceptions. It is simply a relaxed, focused state of mind.
Hypnotherapy is effective for stress, anxiety, panic attacks, fears, phobias, unwanted habits, mild to moderate depression, insomnia and other problems of an emotional nature. CBT looks at the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behaviour and aims to change negative thinking into positive, realsitic and constructive thinking for a positive change in feelings and behaviour.
I have worked with clients in private practice as a counsellor before qualifying as a hypnotherapist dealing with various emotional and psychological problems. My background also includes working with people suffering severe learning difficulties as well as working in the advertising industry.
